An NRI (Non-Resident Indian) candidate is typically an Indian citizen residing abroad for at least 182 days in a year. Yes. Regardless of your citizenship or where you completed your high school, qualifying for NEET-UG 2026 is the absolute mandatory requirement for admission to any medical or dental college in India. There is no "direct admission" pathway.
As per the latest guidelines, OCI candidates are generally treated as Indian citizens for admission purposes and can apply for Open/General seats. However, they also retain the eligibility to apply for NRI Quota seats in both Government and Private colleges.
