Who qualifies as an NRI candidate for MBBS/BDS admissions in India?

An NRI (Non-Resident Indian) candidate is typically an Indian citizen residing abroad for at least 182 days in a year. For admission purposes, this also includes: - OCI (Overseas Citizen of India) and PIO (Person of Indian Origin) cardholders. - Children of NRIs. - NRI-Sponsored Candidates: Students living in India but sponsored by a first-degree or near relative living abroad (permitted in states like Rajasthan, Haryana, and Himachal Pradesh).

Is the NEET-UG exam mandatory for NRI/OCI students?

Yes. Regardless of your citizenship or where you completed your high school, qualifying for NEET-UG 2026 is the absolute mandatory requirement for admission to any medical or dental college in India. There is no "direct admission" pathway.

Can an OCI candidate apply for Government seats?

As per the latest guidelines, OCI candidates are generally treated as Indian citizens for admission purposes and can apply for Open/General seats. However, they also retain the eligibility to apply for NRI Quota seats in both Government and Private colleges.
